About Mendota Heights

The city owns part of Oheyawahi-Pilot Knob, a hilltop at the north end of Pilot Knob Road that has long been a Dakota gathering and burial place and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. Dakota County's Big Rivers Regional Trail, a nearly flat paved trail on a former railroad bed, has its main trailhead on Mendota Heights Road. Public schools are part of School District 197, whose Two Rivers High School is on Delaware Avenue in the city.

Rental licensing in Mendota Heights

Rental license required

Mendota Heights' City Code (Section 3-5) calls for a city rental license to rent a single-family detached home in the R-1 zoning district, renewed each year by December 31, with inspections for code compliance. The program isn't listed on the city's website or current fee schedule, so check with the city on current requirements. The code doesn't cover townhomes or other attached homes.

For the homes we manage, we take care of the city's licensing or registration steps and keep owners compliant as the rules change.
