About Bloomington

Interstate 35W informally divides the city into West Bloomington, which is mostly residential with newer housing, and East Bloomington, which has more of the city's industry and destination retail. Near the center of the city, the Penn-American District includes Southtown Center and several newer apartment buildings. Hyland Lake Park Reserve, Normandale Lake Park and the Bush Lake parks lie on the west side, and the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge visitor center is on American Boulevard East.

Rental licensing in Bloomington

Rental license required

Bloomington licenses rental homes including single-family homes and townhouses; owner-occupied homes are exempt, and a property can't be rented until the license is issued. The application and fee come before the inspection is scheduled, and the city inspects rental properties annually. Rentals of under 30 consecutive days are prohibited.

For the homes we manage, we take care of the city's licensing or registration steps and keep owners compliant as the rules change.
