About Minnetonka

The city grew from the 19th-century settlement of Minnetonka Mills, and parts of it stayed rural, with farms and horse pasture, until the 1960s. Minnetonka is served by three school districts — Hopkins covers most of the city, Minnetonka the western part, and Wayzata an area along the northern edge — and the Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail passes through it.

Rental licensing in Minnetonka

Rental registration required

Minnetonka requires rental registration rather than a license, for single-family homes, townhomes, duplexes and other rentals, completed before a property is rented. Registration renews every year, there is currently no fee or inspection, each rental needs a designated rental manager who can respond in person, and the certificate must be given to tenants and posted in the home.

For the homes we manage, we take care of the city's licensing or registration steps and keep owners compliant as the rules change.
